REMOTE ONLINE NOTARY (RON) FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS What is a Remote Online Notarization Service Technology Provider or RON Service Technology Provider? A RON Service Provider is the platform or website that provides audio-video communication technology and related processes, services, software, data storage, or other services to online notaries public for the purpose of directly facilitating their performance of online notarization in compliance with Florida law. RON Service Provider companies offer a wide range of services, which may include: Guidance and training into the process to perform online notarization. Connecting clients with your business. Facilitating video calls for online notarizations. Verifying the identity of signers and witnesses. Provide the digital certificate, electronic notary seal, etc. Attaching your digital certificate, electronic signature and seal to digital documents. Storing electronic journal entries and video footage of your online notarization. Processing payments from your clients. Aaron Notary Appointment Services Inc. recommends Secured Signing and NotaryHub as a RON Service Providers. May I subscribe with a RON Service Technology Provider before applying? Yes, you are required to subscribe with the appropriate third party vendors. Subscription or monthly fees may vary from company to company. You must include the name of the RON Service Technology Provider on your registration application before applying. May I use my current Errors & Omissions Insurance Policy as a remote notary? No, your current policy is not valid for RON. The law became effective January 1, 2020 therefore prior to that date RON is not included within the policy, you will need to purchase a separate $25,000 RON E&O insurance policy. May I use my current bond to become a remote online notary? No. Your current notary bond is in the amount of $7,500. You will need to purchase a separate $25,000 RON notary bond. Will my current commission number change after registering as an online notary public? No, your commission number will not change. How long is the remote online notary registration, bond and E&O insurance valid? Your online notary public registration will run concurrently with your existing notary public commission and will expire on the same day, regardless of when the online notary public registration was filed. You will need to purchase another $25,000 RON Bond and $25,000 RON E&O Insurance upon renewal if you would like to continue being a remote online notary. What is an Electronic Notary Seal? An Electronic Notary Seal could have different formats. It is basically an electronic image such as a JPEG, JPG, PNG, or other file format. The Electronic Notary Seal must include the same information as your physical notary stamp; such as the notary’s name, commission number and commission expiration date. Every document that has been notarized online has to be able to display the information of the notary public and be visible to the viewer. What is a Digital Certificate? A Digital Certificate verifies the identity of the notary public who affixed the electronic signature and seal on the notarized documen and provide security to the notarized document. The notarized document will be electronically recorded in a way that is capable of independent verification using tamper- evident technology, rendering any subsequent change or modification to the electronic record evident. Please contact your RON Service Provider for more information. May I use Skype, Whats App, Zoom or Face Time to perform online notarization? Absolutely No. Those applications do not meet the statutory requirements for a RON service provider. Can I perform an online notarization using my cellphone? No, there is additional technology required that you must have as a remote online notary public. A strong Internet connection. Use a web browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, FireFox, Opera, etc. A computer or laptop with camera, speakers and microphone.
